Department of Homeland Security Mentor-Protégé
Main Sail is a proud participant in DHS Mentor-Protégé Program
Early in our history, as a veteran-owned small business, Main Sail was selected as a protege company under the Department of Homeland Security Mentor-Protege Program. We made a significant investment in learning the processes and requirements of federal contracting under the supervision of Lockheed Martin, our mentor. This relationship with Lockheed Martin provided us with a solid foundation in quality control and compliance for government projects that has carried forward to today.
We believe in “paying forward” by serving as a mentor to several small businesses via the DHS Mentor-Protégé Program. Our experience has allowed us to share our knowledge and help these small businesses better understand the requirements of government contracting and subcontracting.
The DHS Mentor-Protégé program is designed to motivate and encourage large business prime contractors to provide mutually beneficial developmental assistance to small businesses, veteran-owned small businesses, service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, HUBZone small businesses, small disadvantaged businesses, and women-owned small businesses.
The Mentor-Protégé program is also designed to:
- Improve the performance of government contracts and subcontracts
- Foster the establishment of long-term business relationships between large prime contractors and small business subcontractors
- Strengthen subcontracting opportunities and accomplishments for small businesses
